The most concerning stat in the report is the percentage of users on the Windows 10 October update. The feature update has been subject to a comedy of errors, with critical bugs like document deletion causing a significant delay in its release. But now the update is finally available, users don’t seem eager to jump on board. Windows 10 1809 makes up just 6.6% of the share, with Windows 10 1803 still at 83.6%. Admittedly, the share of the update has doubled since last month, but adoption certainly pales in comparison to previous releases. Previous updates have quickly shot up above 30%, while the October update seems barely present. This is likely due to a lack of confidence in its stability and uncertainty of when it would actually release. Combine that with OEMs having to ship devices on earlier builds, and the numbers don’t look good.
Surface Go Surges Ahead
In happier news, though, Microsoft’s Surface Go appears to be selling heartily. The device is now the 4th most popular in the Surface family, higher than the Surface Pro 6, Surface Book, Surface Book 2, and Surface Laptop. The Surface Pro 4, Pro (2017), and Pro 3 make up the first three. As usual, though, it’s worth noting that AdDuplex’s data is skewed. It gets its statistics from its UWP ads, which will definitely have an influence. Those with laptops that ship with Windows 10 S mode are more likely to use UWP, for example. Either way, it’s an interesting indication of the market, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Windows 10 October update will skyrocket next month.
